Storm Trippers

Lyle and Keegan have been watching Star Wars (the original three) occasionally.  Keegan is infatuated with Darth Vader.  When he is not Batman or Spiderman, he is busy being the bad guy as Darth Vader.

I got him a Lego Star Wars shirt with Darth Vader and Two Storm Troopers on it from Target.  He wore it to school yesterday and had to stop and tell one of the teachers in the hall all about it.  He was all like "I am Darth Vader today, see these white guys they are called Storm Trippers.  They are Darth Vader's soldiers."

Me: "Aren't they called Storm Troopers?"
Kee: "Nope they are Storm Trippers."
Me: "Why are they Storm Trippers?"
Kee: "Because when they are around people fall down."

Well...you can't argue with that logic...

Then at dinner we had another interesting conversation.
Kee: (while playing with his gummy fish vitamin) "Mom where is the fish's class?"
Me and Lyle: What are you talking about? (I automatically think "is he a rogue or a fighter?")
Kee:  This fish is in a class right?
Me: Do you mean where is his school?
Kee: Yeah fishes are always in schools, so what class is he in?
Me: Ummm....(what followed was a length discussion about how cows are in a herd, geese are in a flock, and fish are in a school.)

So there are a couple strange Keegan stories to tide you all through the day...

Itasca State Park

So we spent a few days up at Itasca state park (you can click on the pics to see them bigger). It is a very nice park and just huge.  The morning after we got there we went hiking first thing.  Well, Keegan actually went biking...
We walked down to the head of the Mississippi River and had a lot of fun.  It was beautiful and we got to walk on the log bridge over the river.

Later that morning we rented a motor boat and went careening around Lake Itasca.  It was fun.  We got to see some dead fish, a dead beaver, and some lilies in bloom.  Yeah, lots of dead stuff.  We saw Beaver dams and got to walk in the island in Lake Itasca.  It was a little unnerving when we got back from hiking on the island to find our boat has relocated itself, but it hadn't gone too far so it was all good.

In the afternoon we went to the beach.  I don't have pictures of that because, well, we were too busy making sand castles and getting wet.

The next day we got up and did the Wilderness Drive.  We stopped to do some hiking and Keegan was fascinated by the burnt trees.
Then we went to see the largest white pine in MN. Below is Keegan standing with the sign talking about the White Pine...he is such a goof ball.  There are a few more pictures below of this big tree.
After that it was off to see the largest Red Pine in MN.  The White Pine was more impressive...but what can you do...
After that we drove to the observation tower.  I am not fond of heights so I opted to stay on the ground.  Keegan and Lyle went up.  I could hear Keegan start saying "Daddy I am nervous" about half way up.  By the time they got to the top he was almost in tears.  Still Lyle got a couple good pictures.  You can see them below.  In the one of the ground, I am the tiny speck sitting on the picnic table.
Then we got a picture of me and Keegan standing in front of the tower.  Keegan was now in all-out tears because daddy slipped on the last flight of stairs coming down and they both took a little (but not serious) tumble.
After all this it was time to go back to the campsite.  We found a cool catepillar on a tree.
After nap we got up and went to go see the Douglas Lodge.  We hiked out to the Honeymoon Cabin, and old wood cabin.  Here we are hiking...
And here is the cabin...
All in all it was a busy and exhausting weekend.  Of course we had a ton of fun!  Hope that everyone else had fun this Memorial Day weekend too.

Keegan's First Dentist Appt

Well we didn't take any pictures (as one of my coworkers suggested I should) but Keegan did have his first dentist appt last Thursday. It went really well.

I went first and Keegan got to watch them do my teeth. He got a little antsy but did pretty good. Then it was his turn. He was a bit nervous, but he let the hygienist count his teeth, floss his teeth and start to polish his teeth. Then he started crying and said "I don't like mint!" So the hygienist got some cherry toothpaste and put a note in his chart "Doesn't like mint toothpaste." After that everything was good.

Then the Dentist came in. Lyle told Keegan to say "Hi Dr. Kennedy" before she came in and sure enough Keegan remembered and as the Dentist came in Keegan was all like: "Hello Dr. Kennedy!" Which cracked her up.

He really did very well and they let him pick a toy and he even got a goody bag. I was a little jealous. He stopped the hygienist and told her that "My mommy was a good girl too, so she should get a prize." I told Keegan it was okay, my prize was having nice clean teeth. Lyle rolled his eyes and Keegan looked perplexed. Then I showed him my floss and toothbrush and was all like "See this is my prize." He still wasn't sure about the whole thing.

Today he said that going to the dentist was "Not all that fun, but not horrible." I guess that it as good as we get...I suppose it would be too much for him to tell me that it was fun...

Things Keegan comes up with when tired...

This weekend we went camping at Itasca State Park. Pics to follow in the next posting. This posting is about something funny that happened in the aftermath.

We got home from camping and my Anatomy book that I got from Amazon Vine was on the porch. Very cool book...tons of neat pictures of bones, muscles, veins, nerves and arteries.

Keegan sat down to look at it with me and we looked at the legs and arms (skipping the section on genitals). Half an hour later Keegan collapses into a chair in tears yelling about all "the blue lines on his feet hurting him!" Lyle and I were confused..not relating the two things initially.

You need to understand that during camping Keegan gets to stay up late and he doesn't nap very well because he is just too tired. On the way home he never took a nap in the car and, being that this was the night that we got home from camping, he was exhausted. Keegan gets weird when he is exhausted, he makes strange connections with things he knows and gets freaked out by them.

I got him to calm down and then asked him to show me the "blue lines on his feet that are hurting him." He takes his socks off and points to the veins in his feet and says "Mom, I don't like these blue lines all over my feet, can we get rid of them?" I asked him why he wanted to get rid of them and he said "Well they let me feel pain and I don't like to hurt." We explained that he was confusing veins with nerves and that the blue lines were veins and that he needed them to help move his feet.

He thought about this and then said "Can we get rid of my nerves?" We told him that wasn't a good idea either because then he couldn't feel anything. I gave him a hug and asked him if he liked that, he said "Yep, hugs feel good." I was like, well if you like to feel hugs you need your veins and nerves.

Then the panic over the blue lines in his feet subsided and we were able to put his socks back on. It was very odd.
